In developing its global outreach, St Mary’s is actively working with ‘The Newry Africa Link’ to support the work of Fr Donall O’Cathain SMA in building a new primary and secondary school in the African country of Nigeria. As a Rights Respecting School, St. Mary’s is keen to improve the life opportunities of children in developing countries by supporting quality education. Fr Donall visited St Mary’s before travelling back to Africa to attend a special assembly where he informed the school community of the progress made in building the new secondary school for the children. He praised the work of the students through both their fund raising and curriculum links with St Mary’s Africa. To date St Mary’s Newry has raised £25,000 to support both the building programme and resources of the new school.
